Welding & MOT corrosion repairs in Millbrook. Fixed to MOT standard, photographed to prove it.
DVSA Approved MOT Test Station · Example demo station
Corrosion within 30cm of a suspension mount, a seatbelt anchorage or a steering component is an MOT fail, and on older cars it's one of the most common. We cut out the rot, weld in new metal, seal and protect it, and photograph the job before and after. The retest is free when we do the repair.
Where cars rust and why the MOT cares
The tester is looking at structure and at anything that carries a load: sills, floor pans, chassis legs, subframe and suspension mounting points, seatbelt anchorages and the area around them. Surface rust is an advisory; a hole or metal that gives under the tester's tool near a load-bearing point is a major fail, and a dangerous one if it's bad enough. Common spots: sills under the plastic covers, rear spring seats, front chassis legs behind the wheel arches, jacking points and boot floors.
What we do
- Inspect on the ramp with the covers off where needed, and mark up exactly what must be done for the MOT and what is optional.
- Cut back to sound metal and weld in new steel — plates or shaped repair sections depending on the area — to MOT standard.
- Seam-seal and protect the repair with underseal or stone-chip so it doesn't come straight back.
- Photograph before, during and after. You get the pictures with your invoice.
- Retest free when we've done the repair.
Price: quoted per repair after inspection, because it depends entirely on how far the rust goes. We'll tell you honestly if a car isn't worth it. Failed on corrosion — can you drive it? →
Exhaust brackets, mounts and small jobs
Not every welding job is structural: a snapped exhaust bracket, a cracked tow bar mount, a broken seat runner or a bracket for a heat shield. Small jobs are usually quick and cheap, and often done while you wait.
Welding questions
My car failed on corrosion. Is it worth fixing?
Often, yes — a sill or a chassis leg repair is usually far less than the car is worth, and the repair is photographed and protected so it lasts. If we think the rust has gone too far for the money, we'll say so before you spend anything.
Will the repair pass the MOT?
Yes. We repair to MOT standard and the retest is free when we've done the work.
Is plating over rust allowed?
Only when done properly: the corroded metal has to be removed and the repair section welded continuously, not just tacked over a hole. A tester will fail a plate that's been bodged over rot, so we don't do that.
Do you do classic cars?
We do structural and MOT welding on cars of any age. Full restoration and cosmetic bodywork is a different trade — we'll point you to the right specialist for that.
